MANILA, Philippines — The country’s largest power electric distributor Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has energized two new smart substations in Taguig City.

The Fort Bonifacio Global City (FBC)-2 Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation will improve the switching flexibility, reliability, and power quality within and nearby areas, according to a company statement.

Meanwhile, the McKinley Hill GIS substation was developed to refine operational switching flexibility during contingencies in the area and its adjacent communities.

“As we energize these new substations, we also strengthen our commitment to continue delivering quality electricity service by strategically investing in projects to further improve our distribution system,” Meralco EVP and COO Ronnie Aperocho said.

The BGC and Mckinley Hill GIS had capital investments of P413.98 million and P440.06 million, respectively.

Both projects involved the installation of a 115 kV - 34.5 kiloVolt GIS, and an 83 megavolt-amperes (MVA) power transformer.

In addition, Meralco constructed a new 0.3-km, 115-kV line and one new 34.5-kV distribution feeder for the FBGC 2-substation.

Underground 115-kV lines and two new 34.5-kV distribution feeders were also built in the McKinley Hill Substation.

The two new substations are part of Meralco’s way of ensuring the delivery of reliable and stable electricity service to help promote economic progress, given that both BGC and McKinley Hill are business centers, according to Aperocho.

Establishments such as St. Luke’s Medical Center, Shangri-La The Fort, Arthaland, Uptown Mall, One Residences, Venice Grand Canal Mall, Enderun Colleges Inc., Commerce & Industry Plaza, Science Hub, One Le Grand Tower, 8 Upper McKinley Towers, and One World Square are expected to benefit from the two new energy projects.

“Our customers can be assured that Meralco will remain a reliable and active partner of the government in the pursuit of continuous economic growth for all,” Aperocho said.
