Flores, Dormitorio share 7-Eleven Trail honors

Joey Villar - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — EJ Flores topped the male 40-km race while Ariana Dormitorio bested a strong women’s field as they ruled the fourth 7-Eleven Trail 2018 which drew 2,500 participants at the Timberland Heights in San Mateo, Rizal yesterday.

Considered as one of the country’s biggest single-loop cross-country mountain bike competitions, the one-day event was highlighted by the 30-km and 40-km races at the mountaintop subdivision and surrounding areas in San Mateo.

Flores beat Jigo Mendoza and Jaku Rivera for the men’s plum while Dormitorio edged Melissa Jane Haroda and Abigail Ronibaon in their side of the centerpiece event.

Benito Abayon topped the male 51-year-old-and-above class, beating Antonio Domingo and Orencio Vaquilar.

Jose Victor Paterno, president and CEO of the organizing 7-Eleven Phl, was impressed with the huge turnout and looked forward to more successful staging in the future.

“It was a successful and exciting race with a big turnout,” said Paterno. “We hope to make it a bigger race in the coming years.”

Paterno said the event is part of 7-Eleven’s commitment to promote a healthy and active lifestyle while encouraging mountain bikers to escape the bustle of city life and reunite with nature.
