PSL coaches embrace tablet system

In a bid to integrate and modernize the interaction between game officials and coaches, the FIVB introduced the tablet system in the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship in Zurich in 2015.

MANILA, Philippines – Head coaches are starting to love the tablet system, stealing the thunder from the ongoing Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga PSL Grand Prix best-of-three finals series between Petron and F2 Logistics.

Serbian Moro Branislav, a seasoned international guru who is calling the shots for Foton, said the use of tablet in calling for timeouts, substitutions and challenges makes their job a lot easier.

He said the tablet system is being used in major leagues around the world and if Filipino coaches will master its usage, they will definitely go far.

“It is okay,” said Branislav, an FIVB coaching course instructor who called the shots in various clubs in Serbia, Romania, Zaire, Greece, Saudi Arabia, Libya and North Korea.

“This is the technology being used in Europe and almost all the big leagues around the world. So this is good for Philippine volleyball. Believe me; Philippine volleyball will get better with this technology.”

Local fans, however, first saw the tablet system when the PSL organized the prestigious club battle the following year in Manila.

Interestingly, Branislav also served as head coach of the PSL Manila squad that was composed of seven local players and seven imports.

Local brand Cloudfone is the official tablet provider of the PSL.

PSL coaches gave Cloudpad X tablet an impressive mark as it allowed them to enter their starting lineup, make substitutions, call timeouts and request for video challenges with ease.

Petron coach Shaq Delos Santos strongly agrees.

“It’s very effective because we’re using it in submitting our starting lineups,” he said following their straight-set win over the Cargo Movers in Game One Tuesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“It will be a big help to Philippine volleyball for as long as we would adopt the correct usage of the system.”
