Pirates eye 1st round sweep vs Cardinals
MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum of the Philippines University goes for a surprise sweep of the first round elims as it faces Mapua U today at the resumption of the 93rd NCAA men’s basketball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center in San Juan.
With coach Topex Robinson back on the bench after a one-game suspension and ranged against a team languishing in the cellar, the Pirates look to encounter little resistance and complete the nine-game sweep in their 2 p.m. encounter.
The Pirates rallied from a double-digit deficit to turn back the Letran Knights, 75-68, last Friday to nail their eighth straight victory, installing them the heavy favorites against the Cards, who could only post a victory in seven games.
“Honestly, we didn’t discuss about a potential sweep but rather we want to be a better version of ourselves from our Letran game,” said Robinson, who was sacked for one game following his ejection from their 97-93 road win over Emilio Aguinaldo College at the EAC Gym last Aug. 10.
