Fajardo doubtful for Gilas in FIBA Asia Cup

MANILA, Philippines – Two days before its departure for Lebanon, Gilas Pilipinas suffered a terrible blow with June Mar Fajardo diagnosed to have been hit by a strained calf, making him doubtful to play in the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup.
Fajardo got hurt in their game against TNT KaTropa Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The 6-foot-11 center immediately underwent medical tests which revealed the calf problem.
He was advised to take a weeklong rest then spend another week for strengthening session before getting back into action.
The SMB ball club has informed the PBA Commissioner’s Office and Gilas Pilipinas of Fajardo’s situation.
Still, Fajardo was allowed by his team to join Gilas in their Lebanon trip. But doubtful is his readiness to see action in the Asian meet.
The Nationals leave the country Sunday and play their first game against China Wednesday.
They’re also to take on Iraq and Qatar in the group competition.
Fajardo was to skip their game against the Star Hotshots Friday night.
