'School games' highlight NCAA Season 93 hoops
MANILA, Philippines – The plan to bring the games straight to the students will finally come to fruition as the NCAA holds its first "school games" after a long while with a juniors and a seniors game between Season 93 host San Sebastian and Arellano U on July 13 at the Arellano U Gym in Legarda, Manila.
NCAA Management Committee chair Fr. Glyn Ortega, OAR, of San Sebastian on Thursday said the "NCAA on Tour" will be held every Thursday. It will proceed to Mapua Gym on July 20, San Sebastian-Cavite on July 27, Letran Gym on August 3, Emilio Aguinaldo Gym on August 10 and Perpetual Help Gym on August 17—all in the first round.
Actually, there will be a couple of juniors games at Letran Gym on July 9 with San Sebastian tackling last year's runner-up San Beda at 1 p.m. and defending champion Mapua facing off with Arellano at 3 p.m.
The league opener is set on July 8 with reigning seniors titlist San Beda battling San Sebastian at 2 p.m. and Mapua facing off with Arellano U at 4 p.m. at the MOA Arena in Pasay City.
There will be three seniors games on Tuesdays and Fridays, most of which are set at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
"The idea is to reignite the student's passion for the NCAA by bringing the games straight to them," said Ortega. "Also, it will be part of our celebration of our 100th year anniversary a few years from now."
Apart from this, the league is also planning to introduce 3x3 basketball and futsal as special events in the second semester.
Interestingly, both sports are miniature versions of the basketball and football.
