Valdez shows take-charge mentality to save Creamline vs Bali Pure
MANILA, Philippines — With Creamline's season hanging in the balance, team captain Alyssa Valdez once again came through in the Cool Smashers' hard-fought 24-26, 25-18, 18-25, 25-16, 16-14, victory against Bali Pure in the Premier Volleyball League at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig Tuesday.
Tied at 14 points in the fifth set, Valdez unleashed a crucial kill that put her team at match point, before teaming up with Pau Soriano to turn back Bali Pure import Jennifer Keddy to ice the game.
"The first thing that you will think in that kind of situation is siyempre gusto mong hingin at patayin 'yung bola kasi gusto mo siyempre manalo 'yung team," Valdez said.
"You really have to compose yourself, relax and it will fall into place."
Just a possession before, Keddy's denial of Valdez on the other end put Bali Pure just a point away from a finals berth.
That was when Valdez took matters in her hands.
"Nauna kami sa 13 pero nauna sila mag-match point so hindi mo talaga aakalain. Wala na hindi mo na papansinin 'yung score sa ganoong moment and you just want the ball na mapunta sa kabila," she said.
Valdez poured in 15 points while imports Kuttika Kaewpin and Laura Schaudt added 23 and 22, respectively.
"Hindi mo talaga alam kung ano ang mangyayari sa bawat team... It’s really a good thing na makapunta kami ng game three and sana lang ma-maintain namin 'yung composure namin," said Valdez. - Randell Angelo B. Ritumalta
