Ramos, Bernal seal MVP badminton title duel
MANILA, Philippines - Roaquine Ramos and Ryan Bernal dominated their respective rivals to arrange a clash for the boys’ singles Under-9 crown in the MVP National Badminton Juniors Championships presented by Smart at Powersmash in Makati.
Ramos ripped Batang Kuya Al’s Franz Masakayan, 21-10, 21-17, and San Pablo City’s Jasper Gubaton, 21-16, 21-13, while MSI Jrs teammate Bernal, who dumped Andren Pullon, Jr., 21-3, 21-10, and JLTC’s Jhon Delima, 21-13, 21-14.
JLTC’s Chris Manuel trounced Amahit Badminton’s Ron Zacarias, 21-16, 21-10, while Team ABR’s Wijel Albo edged DGS Lining-Bulacan’s Karl Contreras, 21-18, 19-21, 21-16, to set a title duel in the boys’ singles U-11 Nationals.
Whackers’ Kervin Llanes turned back teammate Johnyl Mialda, 20-22, 21-9, 21-16, and ABR’s Jewel Albo trounced Whackers’ Nestojan Tapales, 21-14, 21-18, to barge into the finals of the boys’ singles U-15 Nationals.
In the girls’ U-15 Nationals, ABR’s Anthea Gonzalez and USC’s Chelsea Akiatan defeated JLTC’s Viana Antonio, 21-14, 21-14, and Metro Kidapawan’s Justine Barasona, 21-14, 21-12, respectively, to advance to the finals.
In the girls’ singles U-11 Nationals, Whackers’ Andrea Hernandez waylaid San Pablo City’s Erin Vitangcol, 21-10, 21-2, to move into the finals with DSG Lining-Bulacan’s Ashley Bernardino, a 19-21, 21-15, 21-13 winner over Aero Athletics’ Frente Macalib-og, in the girls singles U-11 Luzon.
