Juico heads strategy review panel of AAA

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - PATAFA president Philip Ella Juico, also the vice president of the Asian Athletics Association, led the AAA in the first-ever review of its Continental Athletics Strategic Plan (CASP) 2013-2017 in Dubai’s The Meydan Hotel in Race Course, the world famous race track.

The review is in line with the objective of AAA president Alhamad Dhalan of Qatar to make athletics the competitive and recreation sport of choice in the Asian Continent and the AAA as the most professionally run and effective area association in the world.

The review group is chaired by Juico and his members include Dr Lahlit Bhanot of India; Gen Muhammad Sahi of Pakistan and Ahmad Alkamali of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and host of the review meeting.

In addition to heading the Review Group, Juico was invited as guest by the UAE Athletics Federation headed by Alkamali to the world’s richest marathon, the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2017. The top prize for both the men’s and women’s division is US$250,000. An incentive of US$1 million is offered to any marathoner who breaks the world marathon record. The annual race includes wheelchair racers from all over the world.

The active participation of Juico in international athletics affairs is part of Patafa’s four-year strategic plan to intensify its involvement in the world athletics community to help accelerate Philippine athletics development.

Juico is a member of the Values Commission of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), the world governing body for athletics. He is the first Filipino to become an IAAF official.
