Abundo treys propel Cafe France vs Racal

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – Mon Abundo drilled in back-to-back treys in the last 4:37 as Café France repulsed Racal, 78-72, to firm up its hold of second spot in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig yesterday.

Abundo’s first trey shattered the 65-all count then his second gave the lead for the Bakers for good with former Racal mainstay Mike Parala hitting a clutch jumper with 18.3 seconds remaining in the contest to secure the victory.

It was Café France’s fifth win against a loss as it stayed behind the unbeaten Phoenix (5-0) while dealing the Tile Masters their second loss against four wins.

Rod Ebondo dominated the paint, running rings around his counterparts to finish with 22 points and 15 rebounds for the Bakers, who needed to clamp down on defense all game to hack out the tough win.

“We played good defense. Racal is a very good offensive team, but the boys played well and the Tile Masters failed to stop Ebondo,” said coach Egay Macaraya.

The Bakers held the Tile Masters to just 72 points after the latter averaged 99.8 points in their last three games which they won.

Abundo ended up with 16 points and four boards, while Carl Bryan Cruz had 13 points before being ejected for elbowing Dexter Maiquez at the 5:41 mark of the third quarter.
