Maroons arrest slide, survive Falcons
MANILA, Philippines -- The University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons started the second half of the season with a win just like they did in the first round.
The Fighting Maroons survived a pesky Adamson Falcons team, 89-84, on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena to get back on the winning track after losing five in a row.
Henry Asilum and Jett Manuel hit 19 and 16 points, respectively for the Maroons who moved up to 3-5 win-loss card and more importantly got their confidence back.
The Falcons went down fighting with Papi Sarr, who thrived at the stripes, delivering a monster double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds. But the Falcons' import hastened their downfall with a crucial offensive foul in the dying seconds allowing the Maroons to escape with the close win.
Jerome Garcia fired 12 points, including back-to-back triples that sparked a 13-3 run by the Falcons in the fourth quarter to erase a double digit deficit and come within striking distance.
