Marquez pushes for Floyd vs Pacman

Abac Cordero - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Juan Manuel Marquez will do two more fights before he hangs up his gloves.

But again, he said neither fight would involve Manny Pacquiao. He said a fifth fight with the Filipino superstar won’t happen.

For the Mexican fighter, it’s no longer a possibility.

Instead, the 40-year-old Marquez would rather sit back and relax and watch Pacquiao face Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Yes, the great counterpuncher from Mexico is pushing for Mayweather vs Pacquiao.

Boxingsceme.com spoke to Marquez and wrote that “no amount of money” can force the latter climb the ring against Pacquiao a fifth time.

“The fifth fight is not going to happen. It’s not even worth it, because the people are very happy with that knockout,” Marquez said.

It was a knockout that will be very hard to forget. For Marquez it’s the perfect closure to his classic rivalry with Pacquiao that previously resulted two a draw and two close decisions.

Marquez said people should look forward to the bigger fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

“I hope they make the fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather to erase any doubts (on who would win),” said Marquez.

His name is always there when Pacquiao talks of his first fight for 2014 along with Timothy Bradley and Ruslan Provodnikov.

Maybe it’s time for Bob Arum to strike Marquez’ name off the short list.

“I think it’s going to be a great fight and the people will be very pleased because they won’t be in suspense on what would have happened if these two fighters had faced each other,” Marquez told www.boxingscene.com.

Marquez can’t wait to see the fight, too.
