Fire hits Davao City mall; 40 missing

DAVAO CITY  , Philippines  —   At least 40 persons have yet to be accounted for in a fire that hit the  NCCC Mall in  Barangay Maa in this city at about 10 a.m. yesterday.

At least 30 of those reported missing are employees of SSI Philippines Inc., a business process outsourcing company. They are believed trapped on the fourth floor of the building.

The fire started on the third floor.

The relatives and colleagues of the call center agents gathered across the mall waiting for news about their loved ones as the fire continued to rage yesterday afternoon.

A number of mall employees were injured and taken to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for treatment.

In a statement, the mall management said it is doing its best to contain the fire, adding that there was no reported casualty.
