Brace for long queues, MRT commuters told

MANILA, Philippines - Commuters of the Metro Rail Transit 3 (MRT-3) should brace for long lines as the rail system was inspected for unknown damage yesterday, an official said.
Deo Manalo, MRT-3 director for operations, said the number of operational trains would be reduced from 20 to 15 for safety check.
Manalo said the train speed would be cut to 20 kilometers per hour from the usual 40-60 kph for the next four days.
The safety check was ordered after a “strange” sound was reportedly heard in one of the trains, he said.
The adjustments started at 2 p.m. yesterday and will last until Sunday.
Queuing hours could increase by as much as 30 percent during peak hours, Manalo said.
