DepEd suspends career assessment examination

Janvic Mateo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of Education (DepEd) has suspended the administration of the National Career Assessment Examination (NCAE) this school year due to “administrative and logistical limitations.”

DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones issued a memorandum suspending the administration of the NCAE for the current school year.

Initially scheduled on Aug. 30 and 31, DepEd earlier moved the examination to Dec. 7 and 8 due to the transition of officials at the central office following the assumption of new leaders on June 30.

The Educational Assessment Division of the DepEd Bureau of Education Assessment also noted that changes in the membership of the department’s bids and awards committee caused delays in the printing of test materials.

The NCAE is administered to Grade 9 students to determine the students’ interest and career inclination to help them in choosing which track to pursue in senior high school.

The government initiated the examination in a bid to address job mismatches and unemployment in the country.
