Phl exhibit in Venice Art Biennale

The Philippine Star

Greetings from the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)!

We would like to correct an erroneous information on the 7th paragraph of the article “A well-deserved ‘Golden Lion for the Philippines in Venice” by Italian Ambassador Massimo Roscigno on page 11 of the The Philippine STAR last Sept. 20.

We would like to inform you that Tie A String Around the World was conceptualized and curated only by Dr. Patrick Flores. The exhibition Tie a String Around the World by Dr. Patrick Flores was selected among 16 proposals submitted to an open call launched to democratically select the Philippine representation in the 56th Venice Art Biennale.

Pearlie Rose Baluyot was never part of the actual participation of the Philippines in Venice Biennale last year.

The curator of the exhibition Tie A String Around the World is Dr. Patrick D. Flores and the said exhibition is the only official representation of the Philippines in the 56th Venice Art Biennale. This accuracy of the information is crucial in the history of the Philippine contemporary art, particularly the return of the Philippines in the Venice Art Biennale after 51 years.

For questions and verification on the past and current participation of the Philippines in both the Venice Art and Architecture Biennale, your good office may email the coordinating committee at [email protected].

Thank you for your kind attention, and with assurances of our highest esteem and consideration. — FELIPE M. DE LEON Jr., Chairman, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (Commissioner, the Philippine Pavilion)
