Bangsamoro Law must succeed

The Philippine Star

Despite some Muslim and Christian groups telling that President Aquino mangled the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) and that the government is not sincere in its handling the matter, Muslim leaders of the MILF are not opting for violence. The MILF said it will pursue the path of peace even if uncertainties continue to hound the BBL. The MILF stated that peace is still the best answer since the government panel and the MILF have invested so much of their time, effort and commitment to get this far.

The MILF understands that this snag is only temporary and the government is asking the MILF to be more patient. Both panels must persevere more to finally come up with the perfect draft of the BBL wherein both parties are on 100 percent agreement. There is a time frame to finalize the BBL and Senate President Franklin Drilon said they will do their best to have it approved by year’s end.

The MILF as well as all Filipinos are banking on President Aquino for his full commitment to make peace with the MILF as the legacy of his presidency. It would be disheartening if all will be lost. But as we see it, the MILF will leave no stone unturned to achieve peace and move towards prosperity in the region. Of course, this is also the goal of our government.

We exhort the MILF to continue the path to peace and for being sincere and more than committed to achieve it. They have the people’s admiration for showing their sincerity. — Rosary Anday, Danao
