Letters to the Editor

Discrepancy determination

The Philippine Star

(Letter to Jarius Bondoc)

I write in response to your Gotcha column dated 09 April 2014 (Dellosa is right to push new Customs formula). Thank you for your clarification and for publishing the reactions of your readers on the subject of discrepancies computation. Indeed, the differing formula computations can be confusing at times, and Mr. Carlos Castro’s feedback on back checking of figures, for example, was also educational for me. May I just clarify that the method of computation as stipulated in CAO 01-2014 is not an issuance of the Intelligence Group. This discrepancy determination reference is used by the assessment examiners and appraisers, and is prescribed by the Commissioner of Customs, duly approved by the Secretary of Finance.

I appreciate your candor in clarifying the issue, and continue to hope that you can visit our office to exchange views on how we can further improve our service to the public.Thank you and more power. — GEN. JESSIE D. DELLOSA (Ret.), Deputy Commissioner, Bureau of Customs
