Duterte says he fired a ranking official

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte Wednesday fired a ranking official as part of his effort to cleanse the government of corrupt and inefficient personnel.
“I fired a high government official today. I will not mention his name because I do not want to shame the family because his children may already be doctors,” the president said during an event on overseas Filipino workers in Pasay.
Duterte did not say why the official was dismissed from the service.
Before announcing his decision to fire the official, Duterte was talking about the corruption in the immigration bureau.
Duterte said he has barred immigration officials from inspecting the bags of overseas Filipino workers.
Last week, the president announced that he had ordered the dismissal of two government officials for allegedly delaying the construction of a major infrastructure project in Metro Manila.
He said the two officials of the Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission sat on needed documents for the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project for an entire year.
