Trump attending Asean meet in Philippines
WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump will attend the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in the Philippines in November, the White House confirmed yesterday, after his attendance was previously in doubt.
The visit will take place during a Nov. 3-14 tour that will also include stops in China, Japan, South Korea, Vietnam and the US state of Hawaii.
In addressing whether or not he would attend the ASEAN summit in Manila, Trump had previously said only that controversial President Duterte had “invited us so we’re going to see.”
The White House said Trump’s visit would “strengthen the international resolve to confront the North Korean threat and ensure the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.” – AP
