Gringo Honasan concedes, congratulates Duterte
MANILA, Philippines — Trailing behind his rivals in unofficial counts, Sen. Gringo Honasan of the main opposition party United Nationalist Alliance conceded from the vice presidential race on Tuesday.
In a statement released by his camp, Honasan congratulated Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, who is likely to seen to win the presidential race, and other national and local candidates who are leading in the unofficial tallies.
Honasan said he hopes that new leaders who will be proclaimed winners will be blessed with “wisdom, compassion, and vision to help unite and lead the Filipino People towards a brighter future for the sake of our most precious God-given next generation o citizens and leaders: our children.”
Honasan’s decision to concede came following a trends that indicate "the Filipino People have spoken and we have to respect their final decision.”
As of 9:30 a.m., the unofficial tally of PPCRV shows that Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo is in the lead with 13,286,907 votes, while Sen. Bongbong Marcos has 13,144,856 votes.
Earlier today, Sen. Francis “Chiz” Escudero similarly conceded from the vice presidential derby.
