The Vicariate of Southern Cebu (Part 7)

Argao. Church—made of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry with transept, the roofing, 86 varas long, 19 varas wide, and 12 varas high, with a slender and tall tower made of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry which has a wide base and a clock. It has a good organ in the church.

Cemetery—good, made of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry with pillars with latticed wood: the chapel is unfinished. Rectory—of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry, strong and spacious, it is roofed with tiles.

Barrios—Hernandez to the south, and Banco to the southwest one league away; there is another to the northwest two leagues away. It adjoins Sibonga, and Dalaguete on the southwest more than three leagues away; Moalboal on the west is the opposite coast, and Badian, more than five hours of bad road; on the east is the sea and Bohol, facing the town of Loon four to five hours crossing.

Dalaguete. Its creation dates to 1711, according to the parish priest and also Cavada. The older entry is 1770; it is under the patronage of San Guillermo, Duque de Aquitania (St. William of Aquitaine). Chruch (with organ), is made of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry; it has tile roofing; measures 182 feet long, 61 feet wide, and 36 feet high, measured from outside;

Baptistry is 7 varas wide and 8 varas high. Bell tower---of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry, has an octagonal form, measures 102 feet high until the cross, its diameter is 33 feet.

Cemetery—of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry; 297 feet long, 165 feet wide and the wall is 6 feet high; its chapel is the same, with nine niches, 29 feet long, 21 feet wide, and 24 feet high, measured from outside.

Rectory—of cut coral stone and lime mortar masonry, 156 feet long, 60 feet wide and the walls are 33 feet high; tile roofing.

Barrios—it has two, located at a distance of 1 ½ league. The town is situated in the southern coast of Cebu, in a flat land on the edge of the sea, it is more than 14 leagues from Cebu, and adjoins Argao on the northeast, on the southwest, Alcoy, an annex of Boljoon 1 ½ leagues away; on the east is the sea that separates it from Bojol, five to six hours of navigation.
