Kris happy for Aljur & Kylie

Kris Bernal is biding her time when it comes to love

MANILA, Philippines – It’s been three long years since Kris Bernal had a relationship. But unlike former love team partner Aljur Abrenica — who’s engaged to his pregnant girlfriend Kylie Padilla — the Kapuso actress is biding her time when it comes to love.

At 27, Kris knows she should be looking for The One.

”I’m no beauty, but I’m choosy,” Tatio Active Dx’s newest endorser said at the presentation of the company’s product lines.

Her man must be “more mature than I am,” whose broader outlook in life will guide her decisions.

And since Kris admits showbiz beckoned when she was a college sophomore, the actress adds that her guy must be more learned than her. He must help her look beyond the obvious and see things in perspective.

Financial stability is just as important, of course. Stars come and go. Public taste — which makes or breaks an actor — is fickle.

So Kris is looking for someone stable enough to support her and even help her family, “when I’m no longer in showbiz.”

That’s a tall order. But Kris is willing to wait and see who among the men she’s dating fits the bill. Playboy and immature types who are only looking for a good time are out. And Kris is holding her big search quietly but surely. So far, however, she has yet to find what she’s looking for.

She doesn’t mind that her friends Aljur and Kylie have beaten her to the draw. After all, Kris knows how much Aljur feels for Kylie, and how much he suffered during their long — but temporary — separation.

As the other half of the AlKris (Aljur-Kris) love team, Kris relates how Aljur used to tell her how deep his feelings for Robin Padilla’s daughter is.

“He continued to love Kylie, even after they broke up (they reconciled in this year two years after their split). I think this is what Aljur and Kylie are holding onto now,” reveals Kris.

That’s why she’s “sincerely happy” for Aljur and Kylie, and excited that they’ll be first-time parents months from now.

Kris is sure Aljur will make a good dad because “he’s God-fearing and knows how to take a stand.”

But even if she can always text or call Aljur, Kris would rather not, for now. She wants to give Aljur and Kylie a break, and let the situation to cool off.

“Aljur is being bombarded with comments and feedback,” Kris notes. “I don’t want to make things worse. Ayokong makisawsaw.”

But she’ll reach out to Aljur when the right time comes, or when things have become more manageable.

Kris is even willing to take her friendship with Aljur and Kylie to the next level by acting as the couple’s godmother.

“I never had a problem with Kylie even when Aljur and I were together as a love team,” Kris recalls.

In fact, she’s amazed at Kylie’s transformation from a shy showbiz newcomer to a confident performer who can sing and dance on any stage.

“I’m sure Kylie is stronger and more fearless by now. I have nothing to say against her, even when we were working together,” adds Kris.

Work is what keeps Kris on her toes these days. She admits feeling pressured at the thought of reprising the dual role Sunshine Dizon and Iza Calzado portrayed in Impostora.

“There were two of them in the original version. I only have myself,” Kris describes her role in the upcoming GMA teleserye.

But it’s a challenge she can’t wait to take.

No wonder she chose to stay with GMA — the network which built her up after she became the other half of StarStruck’s Ultimate Male and Female Love Team (Matt Escudero completes the other half) 11 years ago.

“I told the Lord I won’t ask for anything in excess anymore. This is what He gave me, and I should learn to be content with what I have,” says Kris.

The sparkle in her eyes and the glow in her face say that Kris means every word she says.
