Phinma, Highlands gun for share of Partner’s Cup lead

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Phinma/Southwestern University Cobras and Highlands Corned Beef/University of Cebu Webmasters eye share of lead as they take on separate foes in the 8th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. Partner's Cup today at the Cebu Coliseum.

SWU and UC went through different routes before hurdling their opening assignments over the weekend.

The Cobras had to overhaul a 16-point deficit early in the fourth quarter before turning the tables on Mighty Sports/University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars, 71-68, while the Webmasters were dominant from the start on the way to a 91-72 shellacking of Tyron Properties/University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers.

As they go up against another set of rivals, the Cobras and the Webmasters are both seeking win to grab a piece of lead with the 2-0 Worthy/Univertsity of the Visayas Green Lancers.

Led by back-to-back CESAFI MVP Mark Jayven Tallo and veteran maintays Giovannie Luz and Bernie Bregondo, the Cobras hope to sustain their momentum as they face off with the Panthers in the 5:15 p.m curtain raiser.

The Webmasters, on the other hand, hope to draw another sterling show from the likes of Garciano Puerto, John Jabello, and Clint Suelto as they tackle My Led Opto/Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats in the main match at 7 p.m.

Though tipped as the favorites, SWU and UC must be extra careful as they collide with opponents that are hungry for a win after dropping back-to-back games. (FREEMAN)
