MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Stock Exchange on Sunday announced that there would be no trading on Monday, October 16.

PSE President and CEO Ramon Monzon issued memorandum CN NO. 2017-0059 ordering the suspension of trade.

“Please be informed that there will be no trading at the Philippine Stock Exchange and no clearing and settlement at the Securities Clearing Corporation of the Philippines tomorrow, October 16, 2017, due to the suspension of operations in the Philippine Payments and Settlements System (PhilPaSS),” the memorandum read.

PSE also made the announcement on its social media account.

The suspension of trading, clearing and settlement came after the Malacañang announced the cancellation of work in government offices and classes in all levels due to the nationwide transport strike slated Monday.

The government suspension covers the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. PhilPaSS is under the central bank’s real time gross settlement system.
