PAL employees get Uber rides

Louella Desiderio - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Airlines (PAL) has partnered with ride-share app Uber to provide employees a convenient transport option as well as contribute to easing road congestion.

Under the partnership, PAL is availing of the Uber service called uberHOP, a ride-sharing option which will allow employees heading in the same direction to share a ride during rush hour for a fixed fare.

Through the partnership, PAL wants an alternative mode of transport that is both affordable and convenient to be available for its employees.

“With this partnership, employees of the PAL group will have a convenient transport or carpooling option at their fingertips. Transport safety and reduction in traffic rush - hour stress will be highly beneficial to employee welfare,” Maria Antonia Llamzon, vice president for Human Capital at PAL said.

The uberHOP service will be available to registered Uber users and PAL/PALex employees based in PNB Financial Center, Nichols and PAL infight Center.

Other employees who are not yet registered with Uber may download the app through the Android Play or iOS App Store.

PAL employees who will avail of the uberHOP service  may pay in cash or use their credit or debit card.

The PAL-uberHOP service is available in the morning and evening rush hours on weekdays, except during holidays.

Rates for the service are 40 to 70 percent lower than regular prices.

Congestion is a serious problem in Metro Manila.

Based on the estimates of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the Philippine economy is losing P2.4 billion per day due to road traffic.

JICA expects the losses to rise to P6 billion a day by 2030 if the problem is not addressed.

PAL  flies to 29 domestic and 44 international destinations in Asia, Oceania, the Middle East, US and Europe (London).

Uber, meanwhile, is available in over 600 cities worldwide.
