Globe unit to house gov’t files, resources under DOST program

MANILA, Philippines - A unit of Globe Telecom has bagged the contract to house government files and resources gathered under the  Department of Science and Technology’s (DOST)  Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil) project.

Globe Business, through its IT-Enabled Services Group (IG), said their Data Center will be the co-location of iGovPhil project’s files and resources.

The data center to be housed at the Globe facility is the second National Government Data Center, the government’s main information hub for all government agencies, being built by the iGovPhil.

The said project is in line with the eGovernment Master Plan, which adopts a whole-of-government approach to information and communications technology infrastructure and shared government applications for better and more efficient public service delivery.

“By co-locating in a commercial site, the government will be able to leverage the private service provider’s advanced facilities and long experience in the ICT business,” iGovPhil project director Denis Villorente explained.

He said the government is establishing several data centers to ensure availability and redundancy for additional security and protection of government files and resources.

“Two data centers are now up-and-running, with another one being built at a facility owned by the government,” he added.

DOST Undersecretary Louis Napoleon Casambre, ICTO executive director, said Globe Business was awarded the contract after a public bidding.

After the completion and formal acceptance of the Globe data center facility by iGovPhil, government agencies starting this year are required to co-locate to the National Government Data Center. Agencies with existing and new data center requirements are instructed to use this facility.

These facilities will serve as launching point for DOST-ICTO’s other services through iGovPhil, including government email, web hosting and document management, among others.

According to Globe Telecom vice president for IG Reynaldo Lugtu, Globe was more than ready to power data and infrastructure requirements of the Philippine government.

“We are in the best position to provide mission-critical services for it, similar to what large, private corporations are also benefiting from our best-in-class cloud and data center platforms,” Lugtu said.

The Globe data centers carry important global certifications which enhance the business continuity program of customers, whether in the private business setting or in the public sector.

The facilities’ industry accreditations also strengthen the assurance of Globe to its customers that their service requirements will be fulfilled.

All business practices of Globe for its data centers are also aligned with international standards as the telco ensures customer satisfaction, continuous improvement as well as implementing effective and globally-accepted processes, policies and procedures.
