Top karters brace for final Petron showdown

MANILA, Philippines - Top karters gear up for the final showdown as they step up their respective title drives in the season-ending Round 5 and 6 of the Petron ROK Karting Super Series at the Carmona Racetrack in Cavite today.

Larco Cortez and Eduardo Coseteng Jr. of Eagle Cement eye crucial victories in their respective divisions in a bid to cap their impressive season in the event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Petron, Petron Blaze 100 Euro 4, Petron XCS, Petron Ultron, Petron Xtra, Petron Sprint, Magnolia Pure Water and Yokohama the official tires.

Cortez shoots for a third straight win and the 2016 Karter of the Year and Novice Karter of the Year plums as he goes up against veteran rivals in the ROK Overall and ROK Novice divisions.

With his back-to-back triumphs, Cortez wrested the overall solo lead in the ROK Overall class with 195 points, seven points ahead of veteran Jerry Cho (188).

Aside from Choi, Praga Racing Team driver Karl Wilhelm and Hong Kong karter Kent Tsui are also in strong contention for the coveted plum with 133 and 101 points, respectively.

Cortez is also on top of the ROK Novice division with 220 points with Wilhelm and Tsui toting 176 and 161 points, respectively.
