3 kids trapped dead in Bacolod fire

Gilbert P. Bayoran - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — Three juvenile siblings died after their house was razed by fire on Thursday at Barangay Felisa in Bacolod City.

Investigations of the Bureau of Fire and Protection showed that the three children were trapped in their house, which had been padlocked by their father, a barangay tanod of Felisa, who reported for duty at the Barangay Hall late afternoon that day.

The mother of the three victims works as a domestic helper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

BFP investigations further showed that the fire quickly spread, as the house was made of light materials.

Fire Officer 3 Cornelio Silva said the victims sustained burns on their bodies, and probably died of suffocation. He added that the neighbors of the victims already started to put out the fire, when fire fighters arrived.

Felisa Barangay Chairman Ramon Jardin said he ordered close monitoring the father of the victims identified as Jericho Diloy Sr., who was blaming himself for the deaths of his three children.

Fire Superintendent Rodolfo Denaga , Bacolod City fire marshall, yesterday said they are still probing the origin of fire, but there were reports that it was triggered by an electrical short circuit.

Prior to the incident, Diloy brought snacks to his three children, aged 4, 3, and 2 years old. (BANAT NEWS)
