Conjoined twins born in Negros

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — Conjoined twins were born on Wednesday at the Calatrava District Hospital in Calatrava town of Negros Occidental.

Maricel Banguiran, 30, of Barangay Lalong in Calatrava, delivered by natural birth the conjoined twins, named Mary and Angel, each of who weighs four kilograms.

The babies, connected at the chest and the abdomen, were transferred to the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City on Thursday.

Calatrava town Mayor Araceli Somosa has assured financial help to the family, adding that each of the babies is in good condition and has heart and lungs except that they only have one intestine.

Somosa said the doctors are still studying if it is safe to separate the conjoined twins. — Marchel P. Espina (FREEMAN)
