RDC-7 endorses foreign funds for damaged bridges in Bohol

TAGBILARAN CITY, Philippines - — The Regional Development Council-Region 7 had endorsed for foreign funding the repair and replacement of 14 bridges in Bohol that were damaged or destroyed during the October 15 earthquake last year.

According to Argeo Melisimo, private sector representative, said the RDC-7 resolution 12, which followed a similar endorsement by the Provincial Development Council last May 28, had recommended for replacement the following damaged bridges:

The Abatan Bridge in Maribojoc and Cortes towns, Moalong Bridge in Loon and Tagbuane Bridge in Alburquerque, which will be funded by the government of France, under the Mega Bridges for Urban and Rural Development program; and

Desamparados Bridge and Tultugan Bridge in Calape town, which will be funded also by France, under the Philippine’s Tulay ng Pangulo Para sa Kaunlarang Pang-Agraryo project.

Melisimo said those recommended for major repair or rehabilitation are Anislag Bridge, Mandaug Bridge, Bateria Bridge, Bacane Bridge, Damiao Bridge, Hunan Bridge, Clarin Bridge, Palo Bridge and Hinawanan Bridge, all of which will be under the Road Upgrading and Preservation Project funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

A 15th bridge, the Taguimtim Bridge, had only minor damaged but was added to the list for repair by the DPWH-1st Engineering District using local fund.  (FREEMAN)
