Typhoon vs. Omicron

READER’S VIEWS - The Freeman

The advent of typhoon Odette and COVID-19 Omicron variant wreaked havoc on our lives and posed numerous obstacles. This worsens the situation not only in terms of education but also in terms of economic and political factors. People are perplexed as to how these events occur so quickly.

Was it typhoons or Omicron that had the most devastating impact on our lives? Houses were crushed, possessions vanished, and heartaches persisted. The aftermath of typhoon Odette can be seen, felt, and observed. Omicron viruses go unnoticed, felt, and transmitted from one person to another. Both typhoons and Omicron are natural disasters that endanger the lives of the majority.

When these two merge, the worst happens. Hoping and praying that the challenges we experienced strengthen our faith, drive us to work together, and support one another. This season, prices of all goods and commodities surged, with hoarding being the primary cause.

Salary remained at the boundary, resulting in extreme poverty. The restoration of power and internet connectivity to all parts of society became a major priority. Everyone waited and waved for the lights to turn on and for the connection to be established.

After a two-week health break, online and offline classes, as well as printed modular distance learning, will resume. Teachers in public schools were encouraged to stay at home rather than roam around. We look forward to resuming work in all offices so that services can continue. We all fall from time to time, but we always get back and stand tall. We have all come back from a near-death experience. Rise fellow Cebuanos, from the typhoon and Omicron!
