PDP-Laban bares bets

CEBU, Philippines — National party PDP-Laban has given the Certificate of Nomination to its candidates in Cebu during a general assembly at the Grand Convention Center in Cebu City yesterday.

Third District Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia is the party’s official candidate for governor although it is yet to announce her running mate.

For Congress, it is backing Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante as representative for the Second District, Pablo John Garcia for the Third District, Janice Salimbangon for the Fourth District, and Lolypop Ouano for the Sixth District.

It is also supporting Talisay Mayor Eddie Gullas of Alayon for the First District and Cebu Port Authority Commissioner Duke Frasco of LAKAS-CMD for the Fifth District.

For the Provincial Board, PDP-Laban is supporting Edsel Galeos for the Second District, Jimbo Borgonia for the Third District, Kerrie Shimura for the Fourth District, Michael Villamor and Red Duterte for the Fifth District, and Jonkie Ouano and Glenn Soco for the Sixth District.

The party is also endorsing the candidacy of incumbent Board Member Yolanda Daan for the First District and Kerrie Shimura for the Fourth District.

Daan is a member of local group Alayon while Shimura is aligned with the National Unity Party.

Speaking on behalf of Alayon, current First District Rep. Gerald Anthony Gullas said his group will support candidates endorsed by PDP-Laban at the provincial level. In return, PDP-Laban will not endorse candidates running against Alayon.

Gullas clarified that Alayon is still affiliated with the Nacionalista Party.

Cebu City

In Cebu City, Vice Mayor Edgardo Labella posted on Facebook what appeared to be his group’s lineup for next year’s polls.

Labella is running for mayor under the Barug Partido Demokratiko Pilipino- Lakas ng Bayan (Barug PDP Laban).

The infograph he posted bears his name as candidate for mayor and those of former mayor Michael Rama for vice mayor, Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera for South District Rep. in Congress, and actor Richard Yap for North District Rep.

Majority of the group’s candidates for councilor in the South District are incumbent councilors, including Eduardo Rama Jr., Erik Miguel Espina, Renato Osmeña, and Tisa village chief Phillip Zafra.

Others include former congressman Antonio Cuenco, former councilor Gerry Carillo, Francis Esparis, and basketball star Dondon Hontiveros.

For North District, the group’s candidates are Councilors Raymond Alvin Garcia, Joel Garganera, and Pastor Alcover; former councilor Noel Wenceslao, Barangay Mabolo Captain  Prisca Niña Mabatid; Barangay Cambinocot Captain Rey Lauron; Barangay Apas councilman Ramil Ayuman; and Ernest Herrera.
