Driver dies, minor injured in shootings

CEBU, Philippines - A 40-year-old truck driver and a minor were shot by two security guards in separate incidents yesterday.

A truck driver of Bright Star Industries died after he was shot by the security guard of a Petron gasoline station yesterday morning at Sitio Sangi, Barangay Calajoan, Minglanilla.

Rodolfo Franco of Taloot, Argao town was shot three times on his chest. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Minglanilla District Hospital.

PO1 Welmer Campo of Minglanilla Police Station alleged that the victim and the suspect argued last Tuesday night at the gas station in Barangay Poblacion because the victim forced to fuel his truck even if the station was already closed.

He even threatened to kill the suspect, according to another Petron security guard.

Police investigation revealed the suspect intently waited for the victim and when he got the chance at a vulcanizing area in Sitio Sangi, he immediately shot the victim three times hitting the victim's chest.

The suspect was identified as Charlie Abadiano Sacopaso, 26, security guard under Golden Sun Investigation and Security Agency and a resident of Upper Calajoan, Minglanilla, who was able to escape after the incident.

On the same day, a 17-year-old guy was wounded after he was hit by the splinter of a gun of a bar's security guard at D. Jakosalem Street corner Mango Avenue.

The suspect was identified as Gleen Culanag, 24, security guard of CQB Security Agency and a resident of Paradise Tres, Pardo, Cebu City.

Culanag claimed that a tenant on the upper floor of the bar requested him to stop the noise from the victim who kept on hitting the roll-up door, together with other guy and three girls. The victim got irked and tried to stab him with a knife.

The guard said he used his .38 caliber of revolver as a personal defense and without any intention to hit the victim, he pointed the gun into the floor but unfortunately, the splinter hit the left thigh of the victim.

The victim was rushed to Cebu City Medical Center while the suspect was turned over to homicide section of Cebu City Police Office.  (FREEMAN)
