Banks warn ATM card owners vs. scammers

Brenda Batuto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Banks in Cebu have cautioned ATM card holders to be vigilant against ATM scammers.

Talisay City Police Station officer-in-charge Superintendent Elmer Lim said that during a meeting with Cebu Bankers Club recently, one of the banks in Cebu had divulged that one of its clients lost P200,000 in his account by an ATM card scammer.

Left in his account was just P50,000.

According to Lim, banks urge depositors to report to bank authorities if they see anything unusual with ATMs.

Lim said ATM owners should inspect the ATM and his surroundings before getting out his card

The scammer is only interested in someone’s PIN number.  (FREEMAN)
