Alegria notches back-to-back wins, Malabuyoc bounces back big time

CEBU, Philippines — Alegria rolled to its second straight victory while Malabuyoc rebounded from an opening day setback outstandingly in the 1st Calderon Cup Inter-Town 21 Under Developmental Basketball League on Saturday night, March 28, at the Alegria Gym.

Vil March Amacna fired 21 points on top of five rebounds, two assists and four steals while Jesham Saban unloaded 20 points with five rebounds, seven assists and a spectacular nine steals to power Alegria to a 107-79 annihilation of Ginatilan.

Arnold Janssen Cuevas chipped in 16 markers, three boards, two dimes and three steals while Jaymar Cometa and Kendrick Mascardo connived for 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists and four steals for Alegria, which dropped 38 points in an explosive second-quarter show to rip the game apart, 60-39, at halftime.

Alegria sustained its momentum to lead by as much as 33 points, 90-57, early in the final period.

James Oliver Gasones finished with 15 points and a monster 20 rebounds in a losing cause for Ginatilan.

In the other result, Jake Leo Quim erupted for 28 points with seven rebounds, one assist and four steals while Joseph Velarde produced a dazzling double-double of 21 points and 16 rebounds with three assists, four steals and two blocks as Malabuyoc barged into the win column with a 93-77 thrashing of Badian.

Jerry Castro contributed 16 points and two rebounds for Malabuyoc, which was in full control of the match from the get go. They closed the first half with a 49-39 advantage, then stretched it to as high as 18 points, 89-71, late in the game.

Clark Aron Bulahan dished 14 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, five steals and a block while James Ivan Alvizo also had 14 points with four rebounds and one steal but their efforts proved futile as Badian suffered its first defeat.
