CEBU, Philippines — Team Sagay from Sagay City, Negros Occidental completed a seven-game sweep to emerge as champion in the Salon de Rose Tatluhan Chess Tournament over the weekend at the Barracks Chess Club in Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

Manned by International Master Joel Pimentel Jr., Romeo Sadia and Amalio Bayot, the Sagaynons ended their perfect run with 14.0 match points to take home the P30,000 grand prize.

The University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Jaguars of National Master Rogelio Enriquez, Jethro Esplanada and Patrick Chua pocketed P20,000 for placing second with 12.0 points.

Salon de Rose Team B of Cyril Ortega, Mark Nino Mangubat and Ed Vincent Lepalam and OK KAAYO of Joel Pacuribot, Carlos Moreno III, and Dennis Navales both finished with 11.0 points but Salon de Rose bagged the P10,000 third prize courtesy of a higher tie-breaker.

Team Conqueror of NM Merben Roque, Prince Rickvil Mella, and Jimboy Almadian, Triple Lima of Anthony Makinano, Leo Lofranco and Robert John Padel, and JohnArdre of Johnny Wellen Carzano, Arje Villarin, and Andre Cardosa occupied the fifth to seventh spots with 10.0 points each.

The Dark Horse of Adrian de la Cruz, Junaico Segismar, and Bernabe Tagulo Jr., the ChessBangz2 of Bonn Rainauld Tibod, Isaganik Luna Jr. and Louie Canieso, and the Cebu Strikers of Ronald Ganzon, Lemuel Montero, and Jaso Bandal rounded up the top 10 finishers with 9.0 points apiece.
