Mandaue grabs solo lead in Governor's Cup volleyball
CEBU, Philippines — Mandaue City belles pummeled Liloan in straight sets to take the solo lead in the North Division bracket 1 of the 2018 Cebu Governor's Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under-18 Developmental Volleyball Tournament yesterday at the Poro Municipal Gym in Poro, Camotes Island.
Mandaue improved their record to 3-0.
Mandaue City powered by some players from Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc., started strong as Shiela Mae Kiseo from University of San Jose Recoletos put up an offensive show en route to a 25-19 in the opening set.
Smelling blood, the Mandaue girls continued their onslaught in the second through the combine efforts of Ressel Pedroza, Kiersten Petancio, Shiela Castardo and Chinnie Arroyo. They sealed their victory, 25-12.
Liloan spikers, for their part, suffered their first defeat in three games.
In other games, Consolacion handed home team Poro its second straight defeat via lopsided two-sets, 25-17, 25-12. Poro stayed winless in two games, while Consolacion registered their second victory with one defeat.
Over at the Balamban Municipal gym, Sogod defeated Carmen, 18-25, 25-18, 25-17 while Catmon pounced Asturias, 25-6, 25-8.
Carcar City still topped the South Bracket 1 standing with a clean 3-0 record at the expense of Talisay City, 20-25, 25-20, 25-17 at the Minglanilla Municipal Gym.
Meanwhile,Moalboal earned its first win after defeating Ginatilan, 25-11, 25-12 while Dumanjog survived Alegria in straight sets, 25-20, 25-11 at the Dumanjug Municipal Gym.
