(CESAFI) season yesterday at the Aznar Coliseum.

After taking the first set, 25-18, the Spiking Jaguars of coach Grace Antigua got the needed boost as they went on to sweep the UV spikers, 25-20, 25-21.

In the other match, defending champion University of San Carlos (USC) needed four sets to fend off the gutsy Southwestern University (SWU) side. The Spiking Warriors faltered in the opening session, 22-25, but bounced back with aplomb in the second set, 25-21.

The Carolinians sustained their momentum in the third set to claim a 25-23 victory and a two sets to one lead. With their backed pinned against the wall, the Spiking Cobras fought to the best of their abilities with hopes to forging a rubbermatch, but Warriors extinguished their comeback hopes and sealed the thrilling fourth set after four slides, 29-27.

USC now stands with an even 1-1 record, but SWU is still ahead with two victories against the same number of losses.

In the secondary division, the USJ-R bantams sizzled to a 25-14, 25-21 triumph over USC. The Josenians, thus, improved to 2-0 while dealing USC its first setback.
