Cebu City attains 101 percent of school enrollees

Caecent No-ot Magsumbol - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) Cebu City Division has achieved over 100 percent of enrollment for school-year 2023-2024 as the acceptance of late enrollees ended last month.

In DepEd’s latest monitoring, Cebu City is one of the only three divisions in the region that managed to achieve more than 100 percent enrollment in the new school year.

The other two divisions are Dumaguete City and Lapu-Lapu City.

At least five other school divisions garnered 99 percent enrollment turnout. These include the cities of Bogo, Carcar, Naga, Mandaue and Toledo.

The Freeman learned from DepEd-Cebu City assistant schools division superintendent Adolf Aguilar that the city managed to get 101 percent enrollment.

This came after Cebu City in its quick count recorded 250,255 learners in the current school year.

In the last school-year, Cebu City had a total of 240,781 learners which means they have close to 10,000 more enrollees this year. No breakdown though is available as of this time as to how many are new learners.

Majority of the enrollees are under public schools with 186,220 learners plus 700 under the state universities and colleges and local universities and colleges.

A total of 63,335 learners are under private schools.

Both the public and private schools have an increased number of enrollments this school-year.

Aguilar attributed the increase to the hard work of all DepEd-Cebu City officials, school heads and the rest of its workforce working together so that they are able to achieve such accomplishment.

The city government is also assisting DepEd-Cebu City Division in ensuring that everyone gets access to education.

More improvements in school buildings in some public schools here are also expected courtesy of the city government as they play host in the 2024 Palarong Pambansa. — (FREEMAN)
