Philippines biggest desalination plant soon in Cordova

CEBU, Philippines —  A desalination facility will soon be operational benefiting Cebuanos in the province.

Described as the biggest desalination facility in the country, the Isla Mactan Cordova Corp.’s facility is now 70 percent and expected to be completed by December this year.

The facility is nestled in a 3.5-hectare property in the barangays of Poblacion, Buagsong and Catarman in the Municipality of Cordova, Cebu.

According to the Capitol, the desalination plants can produce up to 20 million liters of potable water daily and expandable up to 50 million liters.

This facility is expected to benefit Cebuanos in Metro Cebu especially in the town of Cordova.

The desalination plant is used to separate of taking away minerals through the reverse osmosis technology from seawater making the liquid safe for human consumption

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan welcomed Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri and Senator Risa Hontiveros during the senators’ visit at the facility on September 7.

Garcia said that the said facility will not only benefit the constituents in Metro Cebu particularly in Cordova, it will also be an additional asset to the town.

The desalination plant is constructed through a public-private partnership under the build-operate-transfer scheme.

This means that after 25 years, IMCC, a subsidiary of Vivant Corp. will turn over the facility to the local government unit of Cordova. (CEBU NEWS)
