Mayor Chan leads medical mission, mangrove planting

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines —  On the commemoration of the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the birthday celebration of Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan today, the Lapu-Lapu City government will conduct a mangrove planting and medical mission in Olango Island that has 11 barangays.

Chan said that the mangrove planting is done to ensure people are protected in case of typhoons and other calamities and for the fishes to have more shelter.

The mayor said that the medical mission will be participated in by various doctors and several government agencies extending its free services to the poor.

Chan, who ran under the group “Team Libre” during the 2019 local and national elections, said the medical mission includes free medical and dental check-ups, free medicines, free haircut, free facial, free message, veterinary services and free legal services.

Aside from these, a livelihood skills training and drug awareness seminar, environmental management seminar and local service registrar consultation will also be conducted.

The mayor added that senior citizens in Olango Island, who will be celebrating their birthdays this month, will be given cash, instead of cake.

Meanwhile, Chan has already ordered the closure of a “hotel” which was constructed by some Chinese nationals.

Chan said that this three-story hotel did not pass the standards set forth by the Office of the Building Official.

The Chinese workers in the hotel construction in Barangay Maribago reportedly do not have working permits also.

“Huyang kaayo ni ilang hotel nga gihimo kay bolt-bolt man lang, unya ang ilang bungbung gigamit kay styrofoam,” the mayor added. — GAN (FREEMAN)
