Court charges 2 men for robbery

Michael Vencynth H. Braga - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Two men who allegedly robbed a female jeepney passenger over four months ago in Cebu City are now facing criminal charges before the court.

The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor found sufficient evidence to hold Richard Rosales and Raymund Rosales for trial for robbery.

"After a thorough evaluation of the pieces at hand, the undersigned finds that all the elements in the crime of robbery are present in the instant case," said Prosecutor Benison Harayo.

A P100,000 bail is set for the temporary liberty of each accused.

Prosecutor Benison Harayo relied on the evidence presented by the complainant, Odessa Coniendo.

This after the suspects failed to submit their counter-affidavit which prompted the prosecutor to resolve the complaint based on the evidence presented by the complainant. It remains unclear if Richard and Raymund are related.

The complainant said Richard grabbed her bag while she was on board a passenger jeepney along M.J. Cuenco Avenue, Cebu City last April 24.

Raymund then pulled a gun and fired it, almost hitting Coniendo in her stomach.

Fearing for her life, Coniendo released her bag, which was immediately taken by the robbers who then alighted from the jeepney and ran away.

The bag contained a Sony mobile phone worth P31,000, two sets of scrub suits valued at P1,960, two wallets containing P900, three pieces of perfumes worth P2,080, among others. (FREEMAN)
