Siblings’ argument leads to stabbing

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A 34-year-old scavenger is in a critical condition after sustaining stab wounds from his 27-year-old younger brother following an argument in Sitio White Road, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.

Basilio Rebecca, 34, was stabbed several times by his younger brother Dionesio Rebecca, 27, at the former’s residence in Barangay Inayawan.

Based on the investigation conducted by the homicide section, on Friday night the two brothers were quarrelling inside the house. They were arguing about personal matters, police said.

Minutes later, Dionesio stabbed his elder brother several times and then fled away.

The victim was brought to Cebu City Medical Center for proper medication while the suspect was arrested by Pardo Police led by SPO1 Joel Lacson in a hot pursuit operation.

Lacson and his team recovered the kitchen knife allegedly used by the suspect to stab the victim.

Police are set to file frustrated murder against the suspect but they are still to learn if the older brother is willing to file a case against his younger brother. The suspect is currently detained at Pardo Police Station.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old man was arrested by virtue of a warrant of arrest for the crime of attempted and frustrated murder in the province of Cebu.

Edwin Yungco, 37, of Barangay Canamucan, Compostela was nabbed after a warrant was issued by RTC Branch 56 Judge Teresita Galanida for the crime of attempted murder.

Yungco was arrested by a joint operation conducted by Liloan and Compostela police. Judge Galanida fixed Yungco’s bail at P120,000.  (FREEMAN)
