On my way to work today I was pleasantly surprised to see two MMDA enforcers walk to the middle of Taft and EDSA to rescue a kitten that had gotten itself caught in the middle of rushing traffic.

January 1, 2008.

It’s another New Year’s Day.

When the Chinese New Year sneaks in on Feb. 7, all the rats, mice and rodents in the world will rejoice, for 2008 is the Year of the Rat.

And then there is the Nokia N93.

It’s big, bulky and black (OK, there’s a silver version, too.) Sometimes I wonder about the world and cellphone design. There’s bling – and more bling – for the fashionista. There’s square and boring for the serious business executive. There’s colorful for the young and hip.

When I am in a bookstore and I spot a book that captures the fancy of the pet-lover in me, I break into a smile. Why? I guess it is because the moment I see the book, I picture my doggies Gorby, Tasha and Boris in my mind. Woman’s Best Friend, edited by Megan McMorris and available at Powerbooks, is one such book.

"They may be known as man’s best friend, but as the writers in this funny and dramatic collection know, there’s no gender divide when it comes to canine companions," writes McMorris.

[Summary] => I recently lost Greta, our nine-year-old Mini Schnauzer.

It happened all of a sudden. I was so happy when I found out that she was one month pregnant, but the following day she died.

I took Greta to the vet on a Wednesday just to confirm what we at home already knew. Greta had all the signs of a pregnant doggie. She was sleeping most of the time. She seemed to feel real hot and she was not eating as much as she used to.

[Summary] => Gorby, the Toy Poodle with me in the photo, has been feeling really hot lately. I know this because he likes to sleep beside the ice-cold bowl of water we have prepared for him on a daily basis. He stays outdoors whenever possible, and opts to lie on the marble floor whenever I allow him. Of course, when we are together in the room he likes to hog the electric fan, or when I turn on the AC, he prefers to sleep right in front of it.
