At the age of seven, Bengy Toda took his first photograph. His initial camera was a Kodak Brownie, an inexpensive and easy-to-use device that introduced the concept of the snapshot. Since then, the veteran photographer has been hopping around our islands and journeying the world in order to capture spectacular scenes — the stillness of early mornings, the darkness of the world at night.

Called by Babe Romualdez, I entered his "sanctum" to find this tall mestiza-chinita decked out in quasi-Matrix trench coat and all-black outfit. Like some vision from a manga or anime comic book, she mumbled some obtuse greeting. In staccato-fashion, rattling off her San Francisco-honed photography credentials, this was my first encounter with Cebuana Amanda Lu Ym. We now joke and call it her St.

I guess that comes from over 10 years of working in public relations. Monique, a true blue Assumptionista (from prep to college), started at the Century Park Sheraton. After her brief stint in Hyatt, she became the director of communications of the New World Renaissance Hotel, handling publicity, advertising, marketing and special events.
