Chooks cooks up Champions League
MANILA, Philippines — Top teams from the MPBL, NBL Pilipinas and VisMin Super Cup will soon slug it out in one league set to be launched by their chief backer Chooks-to-Go.
Chooks-to-Go boss Ronald Mascariñas said the plan will push through once the quarantine restrictions ease, paving the way for a historic “Champions League” among the three regional leagues in the country.
“We might have some differences but we share in one mission which is to give the Filipino athlete a place they can call home and give our countrymen something to dream about,” he said in the One Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas presser yesterday.
MPBL commissioner Kenneth Duremdes, NBL executive vice president Rhose Montreal, NBL commissioner Edward Aquino and VisMin Super Cup COO Rocky Chan all welcomed the breakthrough league featuring the best homegrown talents from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
MPBL, which traditionally opens its season on Independence Day, is eyeing to begin the Mumbaki Cup in September instead while the NBL along with WNBL plans to kick off next month.
The VisMin Super Cup is scheduled to raise the curtains for the Mindanao Leg this month.
