MANILA, Philippines — Filipino ace Roberto Gomez failed to sustain the charge as he dropped a 7-11 loss to American Skyler Woodward to bow out of the World Pool Championship Wednesday night in Milton Keynes, England.

Gomez seized a 5-2 lead but couldn’t close it out against his American Last-16 opponent, who unleashed a strong finishing kick to catch up at 7-7 and go all the way through.

It was a sad ending for “Superman,” who hadn’t tasted defeat in the prestigious meet at Marshall Arena prior to this.

He won two straight matches in the preliminaries to advance to the knockout stage then extended his winning ways against South African Muhummud Daydat (11-2) and Singaporean Aloysius Yapp (11-7) to set up the duel with Woodward.
