MANILA, Philippines — Chanelle Molina has been waived by the Indiana Fever, ending her bid to become the first Filipina player in the WNBA.

The Fever yesterday announced the development, parting ways with the Pinay guard only on the second day of the ongoing training camp for the WNBA 2021 Season slated to open next month.

Indiana did not disclose any reason but Molina herself posted on Instagram photos of her apparent right ankle injury that led to her departure from the squad.

Born to Filipino parents in Hawaii, Molina last February etched history by signing a prestigious training camp contract with the 2012 WNBA champion Indiana under the tutelage of veteran mentor Marianne Stanley.

She was among the 20 trainees fighting for the 12 official spots for Indiana before being cut.
