Angelo Que to focus on Japan, Asian Tours

Dante Navarro - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Angelo Que won’t go any further when he resumes his campaign in 2019, focusing on the Japan PGA Tour where he hopes to flourish after scoring a breakthrough victory in the Top Cup Tokai Classic last September in Aichi.

Vying on the Asian Tour, particularly the premier tournaments, is also among his priorities although he said he would slow down in competitive play owing to the rigors of shuttling to and from various countries and courses in pursuit of golfing glories.

“I’m not getting any younger so I’ll be planning diligently my schedule to play in Japan and Asia and making sure that I don’t play too much,” said the Asian Tour’s “Human Highlighter,” a moniker he earned for his bright and colorful golfing attire.

But he stressed he’d still be competing on the local circuit, which he credited for his success, not just to vie for honors but to provide inspiration and motivation for the young Filipino shotmakers hoping to also make it big on the international stage someday.

“Personally, the ICTSI tour has given me the opportunity to compete abroad and on a different level,” said the power-hitting Que, who considers his Philippine Open triumph at Wack Wack in 2008 as most memorable from among his vast trophy collection.

“Winning your National Open again and again is special,” he said.
